CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change,Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS), CGIAR
Description: Agriculture plays a central role in both adapting to and mitigating climate change, as highlighted in the Paris Agreement. Kenya, among other developing nations, prioritizes agriculture as a critical sector for its climate-resilient development. To support this commitment, Kenya is developing a long-term strategy (LTS) for agriculture, guiding its climate actions and informing the updating of successive Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The strategy involves a situational analysis of the agriculture sector, combining qualitative and quantitative approaches such as document reviews and stakeholder consultations to assess climate impacts, policies, responses, financing, and monitoring frameworks. The analysis reveals Kenya's significant progress in modernizing and transforming its agriculture sector through policy review, legal measures, institutional development, and programs aimed at enhancing productivity, market access, income, resilience, and capacity.
