Abstract: This report investigates the impact of renewable energy projects on indigenous peoples through a study of two such projects in Kenya, a country that is well on its way to a renewable energy transition. While the negative effects of non-renewable extractive industries on indigenous peoples as well as the environment are well known and reported on, there is less knowledge on the potential negative impacts of renewable energy projects, for example with regards to benefit sharing and how land is acquired and used. While the renewable energy transition should of course be encouraged, human rights cannot be lost sight of.
