Abstract: The Kenyan Government has been preparing to set up nuclear reactors in the country as an alternative source of energy to add to the national grid as part of the plans to meet the country?s development blueprint,Vision 2030 and the Big Four Agenda. Nuclear energy, while a plausible source of energy, comes with its good share of challenges. This paper critically evaluates the viability of different sources of energy including nuclear energy by drawing lessons from other countries where these sources have been explored and either succeeded or failed. The paper also offers recommendations on the possible sources of energy that are worth exploring in the Kenyan context.
