Abstract: The third edition of the Benchmarking Africa?s Minigrids (BAM) Report provides an in-depth, data-driven analysis of trends in Africa's minigrid and Distributed Renewable Energy (DRE) sector from 2022 to Q3 2024. Drawing on data from 27 companies across 19 countries, it highlights six key trends: expanding deployment in favorable regulatory environments; cost declines despite regional CAPEX disparities; constrained concessional finance due to disbursement delays; emergence of innovative blended financing models; regulatory bottlenecks as barriers to scale; and the sector?s growing socio-economic impact through job creation and productive use. The report offers policy, investment, and operational recommendations to catalyze Africa?s electrification efforts and includes benchmark performance data from AMDA member projects.
