Abstract: This guide provides methodological instructions for integrating Local Ecological Knowledge (LEK) in mangrove conservation and restoration, emphasizing co-design and inclusion. Synthesizing 90+ peer-reviewed sources and 20 community case studies, it builds a comparative framework for LEK, AEK, TEK, and IK. It offers research protocols, typology grids, participatory mapping, and restoration guidelines. Case studies from Kenya?s Matondoni, Mwache, and Greening the Blue showcase governance hybrids where LEK improves biodiversity monitoring, planting success, and conflict mediation. Practitioner chapters detail how to ethically engage communities, document traditional practices, map biocultural indicators, and design site-specific strategies. LEK co-production is positioned as a climate-resilient knowledge system with long-term restoration benefits. Ethical guidance includes shared authorship, benefit sharing, data sovereignty, and cultural respect.
