Abstract: This report reviews Kenya?s oil and gas sector?including upstream, midstream, and downstream operations?focusing on the Lamu and Turkana basins. It maps four key sedimentary basins (Lamu, Mandera, Anza, Tertiary Rift) and their potential for multi-billion-barrel recovery. Coastal drilling risks to marine ecosystems are outlined, including seismic impacts on mangroves, cetaceans, and fisheries. Mitigation protocols include marine mammal observers and exclusion periods. Turkana?s onshore discoveries and pilot activities (e.g., Early Oil Pilot Scheme) are evaluated. The report discusses governance frameworks, PSC licensing, regulatory gaps, and carbon emissions. Renewable energy overlaps are noted, including geothermal and solar activities at the coast. Climate impacts, methane leakage, and flaring practices are explored.
