Abstract: This report by Oxfam International examines the acute climate injustice in East Africa, where countries like Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia, and South Sudan suffer extreme hunger and economic losses from climate-induced droughts and floods?despite contributing less than 0.5% of global emissions since 1850. It calculates economic losses from livestock deaths and crop failures at USD 7.4 billion between 2020 and 2023 and highlights deep underfunding of climate finance and humanitarian assistance. The report argues that wealthy, high-emitting nations owe a moral and financial obligation?based on their historic emissions?to support East African countries through fairer climate finance, urgent humanitarian aid, and long-term investment in resilience.
